Protest Erupts in Surathkal Over Prolonged Water Crisis
Surathkal: A massive protest was held in Surathkal on Wednesday, as residents demanded a solution to the area's persistent drinking water problem. The Civil Struggle Committee organized the protest, which drew support from citizens of Surathkal, Chokkabettu, Krishnapur, and Katipalla.
According to Shamshuddin, president of the Civil Struggle Committee, the water crisis has left residents struggling to meet their basic needs. "People haven't been able to take a bath for three to four days due to the water problem," he said. "The MLAs of the constituency are not even looking back. If this continues, we'll have to hold a violent protest in the coming days."
The protesters marched to the Mangalore Municipal Corporation office and submitted a petition, urging authorities to address the water crisis. This protest comes after the committee's repeated requests to the corporation went unheeded.
The situation in Surathkal highlights the growing concerns over access to basic amenities in the region. With the water crisis showing no signs of abatement, residents are growing increasingly frustrated with the authorities' inaction.
