MLA Ashok Rai says if there are valid documents, then let them resort to legal action

Puttur: MLA Ashok Rai visited the spot and clarified that the temple management board had no role in the demolition. He said that if Rajesh Bannur has legal property documents, he should approach the court for legal recourse.

Rai argued that the land in question may have been given to the ancestors of Bannur decades ago, but in recent years, many buildings have been rented out for profit. Criticising the BJP's protest, he questioned its stance on Hindutva and development.

The eight houses on the temple land were part of a larger temple development project that required the removal of the six houses. Six houses have already been vacated, amid objections from local lawyers and BJP leaders. A tree fell on the lawyer's house on February 2. The hearing regarding Rajesh Bannur's house was scheduled for Tuesday, and he had reportedly sought more time to vacate the site. However, by midnight, the house in his possession was demolished using a JCB.

MLA Ashok Rai reiterated that if Bannur has proper documents, then let them take legal action. He said that those who had raised objections earlier have also handed over the land to the temple now. Questioning the BJP's protest, he said that if the residents of Puttur mistrust the development of the temple, the project will be stopped.
